Service Opportunities

  • Be a Stephen Minister - Stephen Ministers are congregational members who receive special training to provide one-to-one Christian care for people at CUMC and in the community who are experiencing grief, loneliness, divorce, hospitalization, disability, job loss, and other life difficulties.  To learn how to become (or receive care from) a Stephen Minister, contact Pastor Lori Cox (; 969-8820).

  • Please help a member walk to/from Sunday services.   If you can help out occasionally, please contact Kay Dunson (210-6738; ).  This member will attend any morning service.

  • Be a Sunday morning greeter!  No experience necessary.  Requirements:  arrive 15 minutes before the service, bring a warm smile, & welcome people to our church. Please contact Hurt Covington with your telephone number and/or email address and the service that you wish to work (; 967-4422).

  • Community Empowerment Fund (CEF) and Christ Church have formed a strategic partnership to better assist serving the homeless in Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Durham.  This new partnership needs the following from interested Christ Church members: (1) time:  CEF needs immediate volunteers to staff the office, assist with fundraising, and most importantly to work with their members; (2) talent: CEF needs mentors with skills in accounting, computers, finance, outreach and marketing, and (3) tithe: CEF needs cash donations to continue funding existing programs, as well as expanding those programs in 2012.  If you are interested in any or all of the above, please stop by our information booth in Ascension Hall or send an e-mail to .

  • Sing in the Chancel choir or ring in the Handbell choir!  If you've ever felt the nudge about lending your voice to the choir or playing the handbells, now is the time to act upon that and “Sing/Ring a new song to the Lord” (Ps. 98:1) this fall.  Here's the good news: only one practice a week!  And, here's more good news:  You may now choose the service at which you prefer to sing - 9:45 or 11:00 am.  We welcome all ages from 6th grade through adults.  Please see below for the fall schedule of practices.  For more information, contact Daniel Steinert (; 969-8820, x211).
