Prayers & Support for Haiti

  • Feb 16, 2010

As you know, Haiti has suffered a tremendous disaster affecting millions of people already living in desperate poverty.  On January 13, 2010, a major earthquake hit Port-au-Prince causing widespread destruction. Millions of people are affected, and hundreds of thousands are feared dead. The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) has close ties with the Methodist Church in Haiti and is responding to the devastating earthquake with funding, material resources and prayers.

The first shipment of Hope with Haiti supplies from the Burlington District (That's the district in which CUMC is located.) was delivered to the MERCI Facility on February 3rd.  The churches in our district donated 2,109 health kits, 58 blankets, 12 tarps, and 5 boxes of assorted health kit supplies.  The next cycle of collection has begun, and Christ Church will deliver all Haiti health kits, blankets, and tarps to the district collection site in Elon on February 22.

If you'd like to help by supplying health kits, please be sure to follow the instructions carefully.  Kits that are not properly assembled delay the inspection process.  Thank you for your continued support and prayers for our brothers and sisters in Haiti.
