Hope for Haiti

     In April, 2011, a team of 10 men and women from Christ Church traveled to Haiti to participate with the United Methodist Church of Haiti in rebuilding the earthquake-devastated country.  The team served in Carrefour, rebuilding the flooring and altar of Thor Church which had been reduced to rubble and broken concrete.  Several CUMC missionaries secured medical attention for children in need, purchased tarps to keep the tent home of an orphaned young man dry, and fed, clothed, played, and sung with school children from Thor School. 

     Is God present in a country like Haiti?  Indeed, His presence is undeniable, and the faith of the Haitians who we met witnessed to the mission team.  Yes, there are many tragic stories there, but each one ends with praise to God for sparing lives and with a statement of faith that God will continue to provide for the needs of His people. 

     Would you like to continue the work CUMC has started in Haiti?  There's several ways for you to get involved:

  1. Join the Mission Team of adults traveling to Haiti on April 22-30, 2012.  For more information, contact team leader David Carpenter ().
  2. Join a team of Youth (age 17 and older) and Adults traveling to Haiti for mission work during summer, 2012.  The dates are still to be determined, but please express your interest by contacting Mike Roach ().
  3. Help out at the Hope for Haiti table at the Christmas Bazaar on Friday, Nov. 18 and Saturday, Nov. 19.  We'll be selling a variety of items we purchased from Haitian artists in spring, 2011, in order to support a variety of mission projects in Haiti.
  4. Donate financial gifts to help support the Hope for Haiti project.  Give a gift in one of these three areas:

The Gift of Education

$35 - Provides a one year scholarship for a child to attend classes at Ecole de Thor (Thor Church School)

$25 - Provides one school uniform

$60 - Provides one scholarsip and one uniform for a child.

The Gift of Compassion

$15 - Support a widow with food and shelter.

The Gift of Hope

Support future mission work in Haiti with a gift of any size.
